Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli vanish from the ICC ODI rankings just a week after holding 2nd and 4th spots. Fans suspect a glitch as ICC faces questions over accuracy.
In a surprising development, Indian cricket superstars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have disappeared from the latest ICC ODI rankings, released on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
The unexpected exclusion comes barely a week after the two batting icons occupied the No. 2 and No. 4 spots, sparking confusion among fans and experts alike.

From Top Contenders to Missing Names
Just last week, Rohit Sharma was ranked second with 756 points, while Virat Kohli secured the fourth spot with 736 points.
Both stalwarts had reaffirmed their ODI dominance in the 2025 Champions Trophy in the UAE, where Rohit played a match-winning knock in the final, guiding India to their first ODI trophy in ten years.
Kohli, meanwhile, delivered key innings in the group stages, steadying India’s campaign in challenging Dubai conditions.
However, the updated rankings now feature Babar Azam of Pakistan at No. 2, alongside India’s Shubman Gill, who continues to lead the charts with 784 points.
Notably, only Gill and Shreyas Iyer (No. 8) remain in the ODI top 10 from India, leaving Rohit and Kohli absent from the list.
Possible ICC System Glitch
The sudden omission has fueled speculation of a technical error in the ICC’s ranking system. Given that both Rohit and Kohli remain active in ODI cricket and last featured just six months ago, cricket analysts believe the disappearance is not linked to inactivity.
Fans on social media platforms have already expressed outrage, questioning the accuracy of the rankings.

Looking Ahead
While the ICC has yet to issue an official clarification, the omission of two of India’s biggest ODI legends from the rankings has already become one of the biggest controversies in cricket this year.
With India’s ODI calendar packed ahead of the 2026 World Cup cycle, fans eagerly await the return of their icons not only to the field but also to their rightful place in the rankings.
